One week from today on March 21st it will officially be the first day of Spring. As I look outside this morning nothing could be further from the truth.

Over the past 24 hours, a major winter storm has blown through. It has dumped about 30 centimetres (12 inches) of snow. This is the most snow that we’ve had all winter.

In fact, February was unusually warm this year with temperatures well above freezing and some days hitting double digits. So this morning I got up at my usual time and started digging out.

Now digging out for me is not the traditional back and shovel routine, but it is my trusty snow blower. While rarely used since replaced last winter, it got a good workout today. Of course for someone who likes to play in the snow, it wasn’t all that bad.

I would suggest though that we are on the warm side of winter and spring is just around the corner. The birds were in shock this morning, but I made sure they have enough seed. And I stayed off the road and decided to work from home (because I can).

Let’s hope this is winter’s last hurrah. The saying March goes in like a lamb and out like a lion or vice versa is true. With tomorrow being the ides of March the lamb should be arriving and the lion departing.
