Over a long career you have the opportunity to meet a lot of people and build relationships. Many of these may be in passing and soon forgotten, others leave a lasting impression and may become part of your network.
I have built up a substantial – at least by my estimation network of people over the years. Recently I took some time off from work, but am now looking to get back at in some capacity.
Naturally the first thing I have done is tap into the vast network that I have built up over these years. It has already helped me in a very short period of time to get connected to some interesting possibilities.
Of course networking does not guarantee me of getting a job, but I believe it is very helpful in jumpstarting any search you may embark on. I am very grateful for the people in my network who supported me in the past and continue to now.
I look forward to continuing to build up this group of people. In fact I recently built a relationship with someone new that has been very beneficial in my current search.
If you take anything away from this quick post it would be to take time to build relationships with the people you meet, because you never know when they may be able to help you or vice versa.
