For the last month or so I have been going through the book Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss. I am actually not doing it alone, but with a community of people.

One of the questions that Tim ask his guests regularly is – “what advice would you give to your 25-30-year-old shelf”. There have been some great answers to this, but one, in particular, has come up several times.

Several people have said “nothing”. And their explanations are similar. They basically say they are who they are based on their experiences. Changing anything or getting different advice would in effect change who they are today.

How simple but profound. All our experiences in life – good or bad – shape who we are today. Our past is the essence of who we are today. Each day shapes our tomorrow. What better motivation than to ensure you invest quality in today.

While I may not be the best at putting the effort in each day, it still impacts who I am tomorrow. The future is bright for my 80-year-old self, at least my 50-year-old self-thinks so.
