How often as a child growing up did you hear your parents say “eat your vegetables”? As a parent, I too have uttered those infamous words.
One strategy I employed early on as a youth was to eat my veggies first. They were my least favorite and so I figured get it over with quickly. That gave me more time to enjoy what I like the most (meat).
Fifty years later not much has changed. As I was eating tonight and thinking what to write, this came to mind. I was cleaning my plate of veggies first and saving my chicken for last.
Does this say anything about me? Maybe I’m predictable. Perhaps I really have not learned to enjoy vegetables. But really I think it just reflects a bigger lesson. With most things in life address the painful things first so you can enjoy the desirable things last.
