It’s no secret I like to bird watch. Nothing hardcore, but I do enjoy seeing the many different types in our neighbourhood. I have a wonderful app on my phone that makes identification a breeze.

For the past several weeks I’ve heard a woodpecker in around the house, but have been unable to spot him. That was the case until the other day. The “hammering” was particularly loud this day so I went towards the sound. I was not prepared for what I saw.

It was the strangest thing. This red-bellied woodpecker was perching on the bricks on the side of the house hammering away at the metal downspout. It would seem that I’ve discovered a new species of bird – the metal pecker.

This “crazy” bird would not stop. Not sure what he was hoping to accomplish but by the sound and the rate of pecking he was “all in”. I have not done any research to see if this is common, but I am thinking not. Just when you think you’ve seen it all – you haven’t.
